The Story:
When violent and gruesome deaths starts plaguing a small mountain village, an old legend about a malevolent creature resurfaces.
The Score:
« For my latest collaboration with my old accomplices Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, the composition of the music for The Soul Eater constituted a new challenge for me.
The anxiety-provoking musical color of the film had to take on a modern character, through a mixture of thematic motifs and sounds with a very dirty sound imprint.
The main theme, electronic, is thus overlooked by a complaining motif which seems vocal, but is not really, since it is made up of synthetic mixtures with a sum close to a human voice.
I thus tried to underline the almost indefinable and impalpable nature of the despair which weighs on the characters throughout the film. I hope I succeeded. « – Raphael Gësqua
The Composer:
Raphaël Gesqua’s professional career began in the video games industry industry in the early 1990s. The composer worked with game designers, such as Paul Cuisset, for whom he arranged the soundtrack of the best selling video game Flashback, for the Amiga, in 1992.
He also scored games such as Snow Bros, Mr. Nutz, Shaq-Fu, Fade to Black, Moto Racer, Marvel Super Heroes 3D, Code Lyoko, Pop Island, Glory DaysandGlory Days 2.
In 2003, Gesqua began his career in movies, working with directors like Fabrice Blin, Thomas Lesourd, Christophe Monier and Julien Maury.
In 2010/2011, Gesqua scored his first soundtrack for a feature film, Livid (Livide). Subsequently, he has written the music for films such as Super 8 Madness, Among the Living, The ABCs of Death 2, That Blood That Will Flow, Kirby at War, A Grenade Under the Shirt, The Thing Behind the Door and The Deep House.
In recent years, Gsqua has also scored more video games, such as Asterix and Obelix: Slap Them All!, New Joe & Mac and Flashback 2.
